I typically book about 6-8 weeks out, sometimes further during the busy fall season. I recommend scheduling newborn sessions during your second trimester, to guarantee availability around your due date.
With two young children and a husband that travels, weekends are mostly devoted to my family. I do schedule a limited number of family sessions on the weekend each year to accommodate clients that cannot make weekdays work. Those sessions book up 3-4 months in advance and have a higher creative fee.
The session fee includes the pre-consultation, session time, online edited viewing gallery, an optional in-person ordering session and ten digital files (chosen by you) available for download. All additional products are sold separately, including an upgrade to keep all of your images and heirloom products.
Gallery delivery takes 2-3 weeks after your session and is active for 5 days. I like to schedule the optional in-person ordering session for the week after the gallery is delivered. To avoid a gallery extension fee, please place all orders within the 5 day window (or at the ordering session).
Depending on the session, galleries range from 25-50 edited images. I only give you the best of the best. Nobody needs to see my missed focus or eyes half open! Images that convert well to B&W will be done so at the discretion of the photographer. Black and white conversions can be made upon request.
The most common way to purchase digital files is through the gallery upgrade upon receipt of the images. Galleries stay live for five days in which you can upgrade and keep the remaining images.
If we have an outdoor session scheduled and it rains, I am happy to reschedule our session with my next availability. The same goes for sick children. If possible, I ask for 24 hour notice so that I can check my waiting list.
I accept all major credit cards, paypal, chase quickpay, cash and check. Please note that all products are subject to Cook County sales tax and standard shipping.
Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home, usually last 1-2 hours and take place between 2-3 weeks after delivery but scheduling can vary. I love sessions in the home because it allows for the personality of the client to come through in the pictures. We set up in the rooms with the best light. ideally the master bedroom, nursery and living room. The session captures the beautiful intimacy of bringing a new baby home with family imagery as well as solo images of the baby.
All newborn sessions are scheduled on the weekdays, usually around mid-morning or early afternoon. If there is a sibling, we will schedule around naptime to ensure a happy child.
I suggest wearing light, neutral clothing to ensure that the focus of the session remains on the baby. Avoid large patterns, prints and logos. A complimentary palate of 2-3 colors usually works well. View my most recent blog post to view photo suggestions and get more details.
Yes! Maternity sessions are offered only to my newborn clients, as an add-on. They are 30 minutes, offered on weekdays only and include a gallery of 10 images. Clients can select 10 images to download. Please inquiry for the full investment information.
The time allows for two outfit changes.
Yes, all immediate family members can be included. The emphasis will be on the expecting mother unless otherwise noted.
I believe that every client deserves the best experience, which is why I do not offer family mini sessions. I don’t feel the best product can be achieved in a twenty minute window, especially with young unpredictable children. I run promotions throughout the year at the studio that will sometimes include specialized mini sessions. I also offer milestone mini sessions for babies and children only, which allow for updated imagery when a full family session is not desired.
If outdoors, I suggest dressing in vibrant colors with different textures. It is nice to complement the season, so more pastels in the spring, strong bold colors in the summer and jewel tones in the fall months. Feel free to include some pattern, especially on children. A color palate of 3-4 colors usually photographs best and adds variety to the viewer. View my most recent blog post to view photo suggestions and get more details.
I avoid shooting on the Lincoln Park boardwalk on the weekends. It can be crowded with tons of families and photographers, and it is very difficult to connect when your children are distracted. Some of the parks now require a permit, so please inquire about that. The permit fee ranges from $35-$70 and is required at least two weeks in advance. I’m happy to take care of registration, and add the cost onto your creative fee.
Favorite places include the sidewalks in Chicago (true story!), Montrose bird sanctuary, Caldwell lily pond (weekdays only, permit required), North pond, North Ave beach (weeknights only at golden hour), Winnimac park, Montrose beach, beach in Rogers Park, North Shore beaches, Forest preserve in the North Shore, Linne Woods, Harms Woods, The Grove, etc. View my most recent blog post to view photos and get more details.
