I’ve talked about it before, but when your friends have a baby and ask you to document this special time, it is SO humbling. This classic in home lifestyle newborn session features a beautiful mama who I went to PRE-SCHOOL with! We’ve been through it all together… middle school, first kisses, boyfriends, heartbreaks, graduation, college, weddings – so many memories. I have pictures of us eating mint chocolate chip ice cream cones at my 4th birthday party! So, of course, I RAN at the honor to squeeze their new bundle of joy in their beautiful new home in the Chicago western suburbs. She wanted a simple, classic in-home lifestyle newborn session, and I think we did a pretty good job achieving her goal! They just moved so were still unpacking and making their home theirs. We utilized the best light and chose clean colors to showcase baby Jake.
She warned me ahead of time that her husband tried to get out of taking pictures. I hear this often and it breaks my heart a little. It is totally understandable not wanting to be in front of the camera. I mean, especially as a new mom – you just went through birth! But it saddens me because these images are more for your baby to have and cherish than they are for the parents. I mean, of course they are everyone’s memories… but these images will just get more and more valuable as the years go by, and to not be in them would be such a loss. Every child deserves to see the love of their parents frozen in time.
Needless to say he came around and was a trooper. He loosened up and was a great sport (thanks, MIKE!!!). I even got some genuine smiles 🙂
I must admit that I usually warn my clients not to wear patterns. But for them, this cute peplum gingham top was the perfect compliment to the session. It added some texture and interest to the frame. I actually just ordered this top from Nordstrom that would be a wonderful top after childbirth for a lifestyle session – Peplum Top. Incorporating this beautiful blanket that was knit by a relative was also a gorgeous and sentimental touch. Blankets like these are treasures.
